Ariadne's Dream Project: Love Poems for the World!

Dear World Poets, Supporters and Friends.

This year I have begun a personal research program to create dream poems with the goal of helping to heal the world.

The idea began many years ago when I was apprenticed to a First Nations Elder and he told me about the elders in the past who could heal parts of the environment by going to those places and staying there until the healing began. He described the world as a living entity that needs help and support, at times getting out of balance. Elders like Rolling Thunder did this on a large scale.

A month ago I had a dream which inspired me to begin this project. Most of the time, my research projects are with other researchers but this time I will start the project by myself and then perhaps with other researchers do an anthology of dream poems in the future.

I could use your help in the information process. If you have a short story or paragraph of 100-150 words or a poem that would in some way describe your country or region, I will read one before I go to bed at night and then write the corresponding dream as it happens.

Last night, I began with the information, research and the intent of a poem for Afghanistan and was awakened with a powerful poem which I wrote down in the dark only to discover that the third page was written over something else! Next step-go out and get a clean notebook! I may be able to figure out the intertwined words but will now take every precaution.

If your poem or story prompts a dream, I will give you full credit as an “inspirer” by using your name and a brief comment about what the place , country or region means to you.

To summarize:

· If you want to be involved, please send a short paragraph or poem on a place or location that has meaning/passion/strong feelings for you.

· I will be doing the headings by countries.

· I will respond and if a dream is prompted and used, give you credit for being the inspirer.

Please send poems, short stories or ideas for locations to ariadnes@uniserve.com

Thank you for all your help and kindness,

Ariadne Sawyer

2010 Pandora's Poetry Awards
Pandora’s Collective awards were designed to honour those in our community who have contributed in specific areas. With this in mind we then decided it was important not only to recognize these individuals but to take it to the street, meaning let the community decide who should be honoured. We are privileged to bring to you those names that have been nominated in the Vancouver writing community. They are names that you have put forward. There were many more that could have been on this list, and we do not take anything away from those individuals, they work hard too and should be recognized. But we only have three awards. These were the ones that kept coming up over and over again. We have listened and done the sorting. Now it is your turn once again to tell us which of these outstanding individuals you feel deserves to be recognized this year. We thank you for your time.

World Poetry Call for Poems for the Poet Li Bai extended to May 10th

World Poetry Call for Poems for the Great Poet Li Bai!
Information i9n English and Chinese.
World Poetry hosts, Ariadne sawyer and Alejandro Mujica-Olea with our esteemed partners The City of Richmond, explorASIAN and the Zhongkun Poetry Development Foundation, China are celebrating the famous ancient Chinese Poet Li Bai in Richmond, BC, Canada on May 17th at 6:30 PM.
Featuring: Dr. Jan Wall, Dr. Hadaa Sendoo, World Poetry Ambassador to China and Mongolia, Multilingual Poetry of Li Bai and Traditional Chinese musicians Mr. Chen Ying Liang and Mrs. Chen. The event is free. Information: ariadnes@uniserve.com
Here is a brief bio of Li Bai by Dr. Hadaa Sendoo from Mongolia, who will be featured at the event May 17.
Li Bai (701-762) is regarded as the greatest romantic poet of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and a representative of the high Tang culture, combination of realistic Northern culture represented by Confucian philosophy and the Book of Poetry, and romantic Southern culture represented by Taoist philosophy and the Elegies of the South. But he could neither fulfill his Confucian ideal to serve the country nor find spiritual freedom in Taoism, so he could only chant poetry and drink wine to drown his sorrow as describe by Du Fu in Eight Immortal Drinkers (Li Bai could turn sweet nectar into verses; Drunk in the capital, he'd lie in shops of wine). Here we see the tragedy of a genuine staying lonely on earth like an angel fallen from Heave. His poetry is marked by masculine grandeur in the Waterfall in Mount Lu Viewed from Afar (The sunlit Censer Peak exhales incense-like cloud; The cataract hangs like upended stream, sounding lout. Its torrent dashes down three thousand feet from high / As if the Silver River fell from azure sky), in which we see the mountain exhale cloud from down below and the Silver River, Chinese name for the Milky Way, fall from on high, and heaven and earth seem to merge into one, that is the Chinese way of communion with nature. In his poetry we can find his love of nature, of freedom, of the people, of his friends, in short, of truth, good and beauty.
Poem guidelines:
• Poems need to be to Li Bai or for Li Bai.
• One page only, two pages in another language.
• Deadline: Extended to May 10th.

更多信息请看:ariadnes@uniserve.com

Dear Honoured Guests,

We would like to invite you to our 9th anniversary Gala World Poetry Celebration with our partners at the Vancouver Public Library, Alice MacKaye Room, 350 West Georgia, Vancouver, BC, April 26th, 6:30 pm with hosts Ariadne Sawyer and Alejandro Mujica-Olea. If you can’t come, please send greetings and good thoughts.
The World Poetry Reading Series, together with a group of dedicated volunteers are giving a World Poetry Lifetime Achievement Award to three individuals who we feel have contributed with their art in their own countries and Canada, making this country into a mosaic of different cultural ideas and philosophies. During their lifetimes, they have left in Canada a legacy from which all Canadians will benefit from. Some of these people, who in their own countries may have held important and influential positions, may now hold minor jobs in Canada today yet they have still contributed greatly to this country. They have helped us to create Canadian literature in one hundred languages, bringing the world’s people together to make a difference.
The Life Time Award Winners for 2010, voted by their peers are:
Lucia Gorea- originally from Transylvania, Romania, is an award-winning poet, a published writer and the founder of "Poetry Around the World." Her recent children’s stories are Yukon, the Polar Bear and The Crow That Swallowed a Pearl. Lucia is currently translating Romanian folktales. The Enchanted Turtle, the first folktale in the series, along with her new collection of poetry, will be available in the fall of 2010.

Volunteer of the Year, 2010: Sharon Rowe, Canadian, of New Westminster, is a challenged lady with many gifts including the dictation of the Handy Dart Stories. Sharon has been called a walking miracle by her community. She has created beautiful paper flowers for many World Poetry Events, and is now compiling a World Poetry Scrapbook and album. Sharon is a wonderful example of the best of volunteering.

The World Poetry Organization was created by Ariadne Sawyer and Alejandro Mujica-Olea and has been in existence for 12 years, beginning with the goal to provide a much needed venue where multi-cultural, multi-national poets, writers, and those in other artistic disciplines could perform in English and in their language of origin in an atmosphere of respect and honour. The World Poetry Reading Series at the Vancouver Public Library, World Poetry Café Radio Show on CFRO, The World Poetry Electronic Newsletter, World Poetry Publishing, World Poetry Workshop Series and the World Poetry Celebration Series are all components of a World Poetry movement based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Recently, World Poetry has included World Poetry International with our first two international committee members: Dr. Hadaa Sendoo in Mongolia and Dr. Rita Malhotra in India.
World Poetry’s foundation is built on the great need to provide respect, honor, support, peace and love for all through the arts and education.
In the Vancouver, BC area, there are over 500 World Poetry poets, writers, musicians from 64 countries including a strong First Nations and Canadian component. On the World Poetry Electronic Newsletter, there are 4, 332 readers including participants. The World Poetry Café, on every Tuesday from 9-10 pm PST, is listened to on the internet in at least 23 countries on a regular basis.
One of World Poetry's mandates is to work with other groups and art disciplines in creating partnerships. Some successful partnerships have been the eight year partnership ExplorASIA celebrating Asian Heritage Month in May, The Women and Film Festival, TVA Film Company, The Vancouver Public Library (a nine year partnership), The City of New Westminster, The New Westminster Public Library, The New Westminster Arts Council, The City of Richmond, Gung Haggis Fat Choy World Poetry, The Backroom Theatre Club, The First Nations Longhouse and many others.
